Interventional Radiologist
Jonathan Kessler, M.D., is the chief of the Division of Interventional Radiology at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte. Board-certified in both diagnostic and interventional radiology, Dr. Kessler works closely with patients with a wide range of cancers and conditions, using image-guided procedures to precisely target tumors in areas such as the liver, lungs, kidneys and bones. His expertise includes treatments such as tumor embolization, ablative therapies including microwave, cryotherapy, radiofrequency and irreversible electroporation/pulsed field ablation.
In addition to treating tumors, Dr. Kessler helps manage painful complications of cancer. When tumors affect the nerves or skeleton, he collaborates with a multidisciplinary team at City of Hope to perform interventions such as kyphoplasty, vertebroplasty, bone ablation, nerve ablation and minimally invasive procedures to stabilize bones and ease pain. Dr. Kessler also leads a team of physicians performing image-guided thyroid nodule ablations as part of a collaborative, patient-centered approach to managing care for patients with thyroid and neuroendocrine tumors.
Dr. Kessler earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and completed both his residency and fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles.
