For John Raytis, M.D., City of Hope® is the ideal place to combine his passion for patient care with his research interests. As a clinical anesthesiologist, he is dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care and is also actively involved in operating room management and clinical research. His commitment to patients and teamwork has been recognized through several honors, including the City of Hope Values in Action Award and the 2019 Physician Excellence in Collaboration Medicine Award.
Dr. Raytis earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of California Berkeley and a Master of Liberal Arts in biology from Harvard University. He received his medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine of USC, then completed anesthesiology training at the University of California, Irvine and Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.
His research bridges multiple disciplines. In one groundbreaking project, he collaborated with a neurosurgeon on a study suggesting that beta-blocker medications may help reduce stress levels in ways that could potentially slow the spread of breast cancer to the brain.
