Dr. John Kenny joined Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) in June 2019. As a psychiatrist at the CTCA® hospital in Phoenix, Dr. Kenny works closely with the care team to provide comprehensive medication management and counseling services. Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Kenny focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of psychiatric and emotional disorders.

"Cancer patients often face anxiety, depression or other emotional distress after a life-changing diagnosis,” says Dr. Kenny. “My goal is to improve patients’ mental health and emotional well-being to help enhance their quality of life.”

Focused on the psychiatric care of patients with complicated medical disorders, Dr. Kenny works with patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings at CTCA. Patients may seek help for a variety of reasons, including short-term or chronic psychiatric conditions. Using psychological methods of treatment and counseling, Dr. Kenny focuses on open communication with cancer patients and their families. If needed, he may recommend medications to help reduce anxiety, decrease irritability, improve sleep and stabilize mood.

Dr. Kenny received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. He went on to complete his medical degree at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York, and he completed a residency in psychiatry at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York.

Dr. Kenny has previously worked in a variety of settings, including hospitals, emergency rooms, clinics and telemedicine. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Arizona School of Medicine in Phoenix, Arizona. He co-authored a best-selling test-preparation book, the Psychiatry Test Preparation and Review Manual, and has dedicated a significant portion of his career to medical education.

Originally from New York, Dr. Kenny enjoys spending time with his friends and family.
