Jason C. Robin, MD, FACC is the medical director of cardio-oncology at City of Hope® Cancer Center Chicago, where he works closely with patients and their multidisciplinary cancer care teams to detect and manage acute and chronic heart conditions that may affect their cancer care or overall health during treatment and beyond.
Dr, Robin plays a vital role in preventatively screening patients who are at higher risk of cardiac-related complications for cancer treatment so that these can be addressed early and their cancer treatment can remain as effective as possible.
“With the complexity of cancer treatments that have some level of cardiotoxicity, it’s imperative to have a cardio-oncology program that helps us assess patients’ risk of cardiac health issues,” Dr. Robin says. “My goal is to promote longevity by helping manage the risk of cardiotoxicity for patients both during active treatment and into survivorship.”
One of the first certified cardio-oncologists in the United States, Dr. Robin has expertise in conditions and procedures including echocardiography, vascular imaging, structural heart disease and complex cardiomyopathies. He’s also passionate about incorporating new diagnostic options like cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and cardiac biomarkers into his work.
A fourth-generation physician, Dr. Robin was inspired by his family’s medical background.
“My dad is an oncologist, and my mom is an ER doc,” he says. “Watching them have such an impact on patients inspired in me a passion to take care of others and heal people.”
Prior to joining City of Hope, Dr. Robin held multiple leadership roles in his field, including positions with North Shore University’s Division of Cardiology, where he developed and directed the Division of Cardio-Oncology, in addition to serving as chief medical officer for an area nursing practice. He completed his medical education in his native Chicago, earning his medical degree at Rush Medical College and completing an internship and residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiology at Northwestern University.
Since 2018, Dr. Robin has regularly appeared on Castle Connelly’s and Chicago Magazine’s lists honoring the states “Top Doctors,” while his teaching work at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine has been recognized with successive Outstanding Teacher Awards.
Dr. Robin has more than 26 peer-reviewed publications, several book chapters and dozens of abstracts, presentations and lectures to his name. He has served as principal investigator on several cardiology and cardio-oncology studies and currently serves as team cardiologist for Chicago Fire/Major League Soccer. He is a member of the International Society of Cardio Oncology, a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a diplomate of both the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Nuclear Medicine.
Outside of City of Hope, Dr. Robin enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, lifting weights and working out. In addition to English, he speaks some Spanish.
