Jamie Fertal, D.O., is a dedicated expert in palliative medicine, focusing on ways to improve the quality of life for people with cancer at every stage — from the moment of diagnosis through treatment and beyond.
She is an associate clinical professor in the Department of Supportive Care Medicine at City of Hope®, where she focuses on evidence-based treatments that help enhance comfort, support healing and prevent complications. City of Hope is recognized as a leader in supportive care and works to make these services a standard part of cancer care nationwide.
Dr. Fertal has published several clinical studies that explore both the physiological and emotional sides of palliative and hospice care. She is especially known for research that offers ethical guidance to healthcare providers.
Before joining City of Hope in Orange County, Dr. Fertal was the medical director of outpatient palliative care at Providence in Southern California. She earned her doctorate in osteopathic medicine from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri and completed fellowship training in geriatrics and palliative medicine at the University of California Irvine. She has a special interest in helping older adults who face cognitive and functional challenges.
