James Shen, M.D., is a trilingual medical oncologist and hematologist at City of Hope®, caring for patients with a wide range of cancers at our South Pasadena and Arcadia locations. A Southern Californian native, Dr. Shen considers it an honor to be able to support those in his home community as they navigate their cancer journeys.
Board-certified in both hematology and medical oncology, Dr. Shen is trained across the full spectrum of cancer and blood disorder care. His research interests are focused particularly on cancers of the lung, head and neck and gastrointestinal system.
A graduate with honors from the University of California, Los Angeles, Dr. Shen earned his medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. He then completed his internal medicine residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and went on to a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center.
Dr. Shen is fluent in Mandarin, Spanish and English. Outside of the clinic, he spends a lot of time with community projects, volunteers as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters and has run eight marathons.
