About Me

Irene Morae Kang, M.D., is medical director of women’s health for City of Hope® Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center and an assistant professor in the Department of Medical Oncology & Therapeutics Research. Dr. Kang’s clinical focus is on diagnosing and treating breast cancer and she is committed to advancing a patient-centered, collaborative and evidence-based approach to care, as well as a strong physician-patient relationship.

A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Kang received her medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco. She then completed an internal medicine residency at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose and a hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles. She received a teaching award for her mentorship of oncology fellows at USC and was recognized by LA Magazine as one of the region’s “Top Doctors.” She joined City of Hope in 2022, where she now leads the women’s health program at our Orange County location.

Dr. Kang’s academic interests lie in the molecular profiling of breast tumors and the development of novel therapeutics. She actively contributes to national oncology efforts through her involvement with the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Southwest Oncology Group. Outside of the clinical, Dr. Kang enjoys staying active through biking and exercise and finds great joy in her role as a mother.

Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
