Humberto Villarreal, M.D., M.S.C.I., chose to pursue a career in medicine out of a deep commitment to helping clinically underserved populations like the community he grew up in. As a urologic surgeon at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte, Dr. Villarreal prioritizes shared decision-making centered on crafting a treatment plan that reflects his patients’ personal values and health goals, as well as their quality of life.
Dr. Villarreal received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where he also began his surgical training with a general surgery internship. A proud veteran of the U.S. Army Medical Corps, he completed additional surgical training at San Antonio Military Medical Center and a urology residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he also earned a master’s degree in clinical investigation. He further specialized through a fellowship with the Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons at the University of Colorado in Denver.
Bilingual in English and Spanish, Dr. Villarreal values connecting with patients from all backgrounds. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, beach outings, skiing and spending time with his wife and three children.
