About Me

Humberto Villarreal, M.D., M.S.C.I., chose to pursue a career in medicine out of a deep commitment to helping clinically underserved populations like the community he grew up in. As a urologic surgeon at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte, Dr. Villarreal prioritizes shared decision-making centered on crafting a treatment plan that reflects his patients’ personal values and health goals, as well as their quality of life.

Dr. Villarreal received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where he also began his surgical training with a general surgery internship. A proud veteran of the U.S. Army Medical Corps, he completed additional surgical training at San Antonio Military Medical Center and a urology residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he also earned a master’s degree in clinical investigation. He further specialized through a fellowship with the Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons at the University of Colorado in Denver.

Bilingual in English and Spanish, Dr. Villarreal values connecting with patients from all backgrounds. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, beach outings, skiing and spending time with his wife and three children.

Patient reviews
The patient ratings and comments on this page are obtained from an external Press Ganey® outpatient survey provided to all eligible City of Hope patients within one to two weeks of their treatment occurrence. Raw data from the answers to the survey questions about our physicians are calculated by Press Ganey into a one- to five- star rating. In the spirit of transparency, all patient comments are posted as written by the patient, whether they are positive or negative. We only exclude comments if they are deemed to be slanderous or libelous, contain profanity or vulgar language, or do not relate to the patient's experience with the doctor involved. As a result, the comments are the views and opinions of the patients surveyed and are not endorsed by, and may not necessarily reflect the opinion of, City of Hope.

"I have a general good feeling, [...] I expect a doctor to be open and honest with a patient, which he had done for the most part [...] and I would expect the online changes to my meds would be reflected in the paperwork staff has."

"Doctor didn't seem to care about my problem at all. He looked annoyed and even whme I explained things to him he didnt seemed to cared. I had some genuine concerned about my health and he just brush it off. I had a couple of lab tests that my primary doctor sent me do and he disnt even want to see them. Didn't give me any explaof what elese could be wrong with me. He just said, "you looked fine" but didnt cared about the symlo told him I was suffering from. Hinestly I felt really uncomfortable and made me feel stupid. Plus, I still have all.those symptoms and have no hope as to getting better"
