Hans Schoellhammer, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a surgical oncologist based at City of Hope® Antelope Valley and Mission Hills, who also practices at City of Hope’s flagship campus in Duarte, California. He chose to pursue a career as a surgeon in part because it allows him to have an immediate, hands-on impact on his patients’ health and wellbeing during their most critical health challenges.
Dr. Schoellhammer holds dual board certifications in surgery and complex general surgical oncology. His clinical focus includes the surgical treatment of a wide range of cancers, with a particular interest in melanoma and gastrointestinal tumors.
After earning his undergraduate degree in molecular and cell biology with an emphasis in immunology and pathogenesis from the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Schoellhammer received his medical degree at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. He then completed his general surgery residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, followed by a research fellowship in melanoma at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, where he trained under renowned surgical oncologist Donald L. Morton, M.D. Dr. Schoellhammer completed his complex general surgical oncology fellowship at City of Hope, serving as chief administrative fellow, before joining the faculty.
Widely recognized for his dedication to patient care, Dr. Schoellhammer has received multiple awards and is active in several professional societies. He has contributed extensively to the academic field, publishing in textbooks and peer-reviewed journals on advancing therapies for melanoma and other malignancies.
