At a young age, Gaurav Singh, MD, MPH, FACMS, saw the positive impact that doctors had on the physical, mental and social health of the people around him, inspiring him to pursue a career in medicine that combined his desire to help others with his fascination for science. As a dermatologist and Mohs micrographic surgeon at City of Hope® Cancer Center Chicago, Dr. Singh brings his comprehensive expertise in dermatologic conditions, innovative surgical techniques and disease epidemiology when caring for patients with disorders of skin, hair, and nails.
“I like to spend time with my patients, get to know them and help them understand their disease and treatment options,” says Dr. Singh. “Skin conditions, including skin cancer, can be very challenging and require compassionate expert guidance, which I strive to provide at every visit. I aim to address all cutaneous concerns for patients in our communities and deliver the best possible outcomes.”
Dr. Singh’s wide-ranging expertise includes Mohs micrographic surgery — an effective procedure that offers the best possible cure rates for skin cancer while sparing as much healthy tissue as possible. Dr. Singh is a double board-certified, fellowship-trained specialist in Mohs surgery and has performed more than 10,000 such procedures to date. In addition to having a cure rate of 99%, Mohs surgery is combined with reconstructive surgery to achieve an optimal cosmetic outcome with the least possible scarring.
Committed to treating patients with many different types of skin, hair and nail issues, Dr. Singh also has expertise in the management of cutaneous side effects (skin reactions and conditions) from chemotherapy, immunotherapy and radiation, skin cancer preventive care, inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis, nail disorders, hair loss, benign skin growths and cosmetic procedures.
“I take the time to understand my patients’ experiences with their illness and their priorities in treatment goals. I then develop an effective, comprehensive, evidence-based plan unique to them,” says Dr. Singh, who incorporates innovative advances in medical and surgical treatments into his patients’ care plans.
Dr. Singh earned both his medical degree and Master of Public Health (MPH) degree (with a focus on epidemiology) at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He then completed his internal medicine internship at the University of Miami Hospitals, followed by a residency in dermatology at New York University Langone Health in New York City where he was selected as chief resident. His fellowship training in Mohs micrographic surgery took place at the University of California, in San Diego, California.
Outside of City of Hope, Dr. Singh enjoys traveling, reading and spending time with his wife, who is a pediatrician. He is fluent in both English and Hindi.
