Psychiatrist
Erica Veguilla, MD, MPH, is a psychiatrist whose philosophy when working with cancer patients emphasizes a whole-person approach to care. She integrates traditional methods, such as medication management and psychotherapy, with scientifically supported complementary therapies like mindfulness practices and lifestyle-based interventions, to support patients as they take on their cancer journey.
Dr. Veguilla’s patient-centered philosophy has been shaped by her experience in both private practice and major medical institutions. Before joining City of Hope, she led her own practice in Naperville, Illinois, offering psychiatric evaluations, therapy and medication management. She has also served in clinical roles at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital, Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital and at both Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital in Boston.
Dr. Veguilla earned her medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine and her master’s in public health from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health in Baltimore. She completed her psychiatry residency at Boston University and pursued advanced fellowships at Harvard South Shore/Boston VA Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Integrative Psychiatry Institute.
Her dedication to compassionate, collaborative care has earned her recognition, including the Partners in Excellence Team Award from Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital and the Evelyn H. & Theodore P. Chengelis Award for exemplary character from Boston University.
