Dani Castillo, M.D., is a medical oncologist at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte, where she focuses on conducting leading-edge research into new therapies and approaches to treating esophageal and gastric cancers.
Dr. Castillo, who was motivated to pursue a career in medicine after a close family member was diagnosed with cancer, takes a compassionate, patient-focused approach to care that treats the patient-physician relationship as a partnership. She works closely with those diagnosed with cancer to ensure that their personal values are taken into account during treatment that they are able to make informed decisions about their care.
After earning her medical degree at Ruprecht-Karls-Universität in Heidelberg, Germany, Dr. Castillo took on a postdoctoral research fellowship in stem cell transplantation at the University of California, San Diego. She later explored lung cancer as a research associate at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Her contributions to oncology have earned her accolades including the Merit Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology in 2023 and an Abstract Achievement Award from the American Society of Hematology in 2012. When she joined City of Hope in 2023, she had already authored a dozen peer-reviewed publications, including articles featured in the Journal of Clinical Oncology and Blood.
Outside of the professional arena, Dr. Castillo enjoys taking Zumba classes, exploring new places and watching basketball. She is fluent in English, Mandarin, Spanish and German.
