For Cornelia Banciu-Odell, MD, medicine is both a vocation and a passion. As a hospital medicine specialist at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte, she works closely with patients with a wide range of cancer types and health issues, focusing on both their physical health and their mental and emotional wellbeing.
“It continually challenges me, inspires me and reminds me of the profound privilege of caring for others. I cannot imagine a more meaningful path,” she says.
Trained in family medicine, Dr. Banciu-Odell earned her medical degree from Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Iasi, Romania. After moving to the United States, she completed an internal medicine residency at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, California. She has worked as a hospitalist in both Southern California and Arizona.
Dr. Banciu-Odell has conducted research on early detection and treatment of mood disorders and on how mental health influences the course and prognosis of illness. She chose to join City of Hope because of its patient-centered philosophy and its deep commitment to humanity.
