Christiane Querfeld, M.D., Ph.D., is a professor of dermatology and dermatopathology at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte, where she leads the Cutaneous Lymphoma Program – a multidisciplinary program that is part of the Toni Stephenson Lymphoma Center.
One of the world’s leading authorities in cutaneous lymphoma, Dr. Querfeld has expertise in diagnosing and treating the condition, as well as other skin cancers such as melanoma. As a board-certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist, she has helped patients across the country and around the world find leading-edge, team-based skin cancer treatment that is personalized to their unique diagnosis and needs. Dr. Querfeld takes pride in her ability to combine clinical care, lab-based diagnosis and research to find the right choice of therapies for every patient.
Dr. Querfeld originally trained in dermatology in Germany, then moved to the United States to pursue a postdoctoral cutaneous lymphoma fellowship at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University in Chicago. She completed a residency in dermatology at the University of Chicago and a second fellowship in dermatopathology at Northwestern. Before joining City of Hope in 2014, she was on the faculty at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
In her current role, Dr. Querfeld splits her time between seeing patients, analyzing skin biopsies and leading research studies that seek to better understand cutaneous lymphoma in order to improve treatment options such as immunotherapy. Her work is supported by many research foundations, including the National Cancer Institute.
Dr. Querfeld has written more than 120 scientific articles and book chapters in her fields of expertise and has earned awards for her research and patient care, including the Celgene Leader in Hematology award, an Excellence Award from City of Hope and the Clinical Scholar Career Development Award from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
