Azra Borogovac, MD, MS, is a hematologist at City of Hope® Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center. With a person-first approach to care, Dr. Borogovac sees the patient as the most important person on any cancer care team. Believing that treatment should never be one-size-fits-all, she considers each person’s individual goals, values and life circumstances when designing a plan of care for a wide range of blood cancer types.
Dr. Borogovac earned her medical degree at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, where she also completed her residency in internal medicine. She went on to a fellowship in hematology/oncology and stem cell transplant and cellular therapy at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, where she also obtained a master’s degree in clinical and translational science. In addition, she was selected for the prestigious yearlong program at the American Society of Hematology Clinical Translational Research Institute.
With a research focus on advancing therapies for blood cancers and reducing treatment-related side effects, Dr. Borogovac leads clinical trials exploring targeted drugs, stem cell transplant options and cellular therapies. Before joining City of Hope, she served as an assistant professor of hematology/oncology at the University of Oklahoma’s Stephenson Cancer Center.
Fluent in Bosnian, Dr. Borogovac enjoys spending time with her daughter, as well as hiking, traveling and discovering new restaurants.
