For Augen Batou, D.O., being a hospitalist is about service — caring for others while fulfilling his own sense of purpose. The son of a pharmacist, Dr. Batou developed a love for medicine early in life. At City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte, he enjoys the challenge of diagnosing and treating complex conditions, often comparing it to solving a mystery, and is committed to caring for every patient as if they were family.
Before joining City of Hope, Dr. Batou worked as a hospitalist at Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina, California, and served as a physician advisor for Emanate Health. He spent nine years with the U.S. Air Force — first as a reservist and later on active duty — where he achieved the rank of major and earned the Meritorious Service Medal. During his residency at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium, he received the James L. Leonard Award for Excellence in Teaching Internal Medicine.
Outside of work, Dr. Batou enjoys staying active, traveling internationally, reading graphic novels and comic books and playing video and board games with friends. He also hopes to one day take up watchmaking and repair as a hobby.
