“I cherish the bonds formed with patients and their families,” says Andrew Artz, M.D., M.S., a nationally recognized expert in treating leukemia and blood disorders in older adults.
Dr. Artz leads the Aging and Blood Cancers Program at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte, where he has developed innovative, multidisciplinary approaches to prepare older patients for lifesaving stem cell transplants. He also conducts research aimed at improving care and outcomes for seniors, including studies on anemia in older individuals.
Dr. Artz earned his medical degree in his home state at West Virginia University. He completed an internal medicine residency at Georgetown University and a hematology-oncology fellowship at the University of Chicago, followed by advanced training in stem cell transplantation at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle. Before joining City of Hope, he served as an attending hematologist and clinical director of the transplant program at the University of Chicago.
