About Me

An Nguyen, M.D., is an endocrinologist and assistant clinical professor at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte, where she focuses on guiding patients living with diabetes and other hormonal disorders as they manage their health and make informed decisions to support their long-term well-being.

Dr. Nguyen was drawn to medicine by her fascination with science and a strong desire to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. She gravitated toward endocrinology because it offered her the opportunity to work closely with patients across a wide spectrum of chronic and often complex conditions. Her clinical philosophy blends compassionate, individualized care with a strong foundation in the latest evidence-based treatments and innovations in endocrine health.

She earned her medical degree from the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University in New York, then took on a postgraduate residency in internal medicine at Scripps Clinic and Scripps Green Hospital in San Diego, followed by a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at the University of California, San Francisco.

Throughout her career, Dr. Nguyen has been acknowledged for both her clinical service and research, including honors from the Endocrine Fellow Foundation. She is actively involved in endocrine health research and has contributed to peer-reviewed studies and multiple national medical conferences.

Patient reviews
The patient ratings and comments on this page are obtained from an external Press Ganey® outpatient survey provided to all eligible City of Hope patients within one to two weeks of their treatment occurrence. Raw data from the answers to the survey questions about our physicians are calculated by Press Ganey into a one- to five- star rating. In the spirit of transparency, all patient comments are posted as written by the patient, whether they are positive or negative. We only exclude comments if they are deemed to be slanderous or libelous, contain profanity or vulgar language, or do not relate to the patient's experience with the doctor involved. As a result, the comments are the views and opinions of the patients surveyed and are not endorsed by, and may not necessarily reflect the opinion of, City of Hope.

"I am very happy with my experience with Dr. Nguyen. Endocrinologists usually have a bad rap of being dismissing / insensitive - and that's been my experience with 3 of them in the past. Dr. Nguyen is caring, addresses all concerns, has a lot of great insight, and is an overall excellent doctor!"

"Dr. Nguyen seems so smart and an expert in her field. That being said, I think her bedside manner could use some improvements. She asked me if I am "over" grieving the death of my mother (it has been less than a year since she passed) and when asking if I have been seeing a professional for my grief, she asked if the provider thinks it is "normal" for me to "still be this sad." I am giving her the benefit of the doubt and assume she was assessing for mood/depression based on her overall assessment of a thyroid issue. However, there are more sensitive ways to ask these questions. For example, "How are you managing your stress?" or "Are you working through this major loss?" She seems like a very knowledgeable provider but after I receive the more immediate care I am receiving from her, I will be terminating treatment with her."

"It was my first time meeting Dr. Nguyen for a consultation. Dr. Nguyen seemed to have read my chart before she came in and it helped me tat ease trying to explain my concerns. She also answered all my questions throughly and clearly. My husband and I left her office feeling much better than before meeting Dr. Nguyen. She was great!"

"Dr. Nguyen was excellent in providing information on my thyroid levels and suggested additional lab work. In addition, I expressed my concerns about being on [...] going on 2 years and would like to get off. She explained that it is a lifetime drug although now is the time to get off otherwise if I was on it longer she would not suggest to take me off. She explained that I would have to be monitored closely and have 3 infusions within 5 years. Also, will need to have another Dexascan next year to ensure that I am not having bone loss and monitor closely."

"I came to her to seek guidance on perimenopause symptoms that I've been experiencing over the past year. I completed all preliminary paperwork and came prepared to the appointment with all medications, supplements and symptoms listed for discussion. She was dismissive and confused. She stated that, "I looked fine to her" and that my proposed bloodwork tests to help determine hormone levels were not tests she could even read or do anything about. Only after 20 minutes of a circular conversation did she admit that she was not the type of endocrinologist that I needed. I left the visit feeling frustrated & invisible. I don't fault the doctor based on her speciality of medicine, but her bedside manner, lack of transparency and overall lack of concern for my health was alarming. I would NEVER recommend her to anyone. [...]"
