About Me

Amber Flaherty, MD, joined City of Hope® Cancer Center Phoenix in November 2023 as a Medical Oncologist, primarily working with patients at the City of Hope Cancer Care Tatum Ridge. Triple board certified, in internal medicine, hematology and oncology, she is experienced in treating all types of malignancies, with a specific focus on genitourinary cancers such as those of the prostate, kidney, bladder and testes.

Dr. Flaherty’s goal for her patients is to provide them with the support they need throughout their cancer journey. She is passionate about expanding access to leading-edge treatments and supportive care services to help patients maintain their quality of life.

“I focus not only on saving people’s lives but ensuring that they have a quality of life they can enjoy as survivors,” she says. “For me, there’s no such thing as one-size-fits-all cancer care. We have to understand what’s important to patients and their families, so we can tailor treatment to address their medical needs while attending to their personal goals and priorities.”

Dr. Flaherty earned her medical degree from St. George’s University in Grenada, followed by a residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas, where she served as chief resident. During her hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of South Florida Moffit Cancer Center, she co-authored four peer-reviewed studies on kidney and penile cancer. She’s also conducted research on kidney, prostate and bladder cancers as principal investigator.

Before launching her medical studies, Dr. Flaherty was a clinical research coordinator for HIV/AIDS drug investigations for an area medical group. Today, she’s a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology.

Outside of City of Hope, Dr. Flaherty loves quality time with her two sons and husband, a neurologist. Her family loves to enjoy the outdoors, travel and play video games.

Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
