Orthopaedic Surgeon
Alana Mary Munger, M.D., is an orthopaedic surgeon at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte. She is an expert in treating bone and soft tissue sarcomas, as well as patients with cancer that has spread to the bones. Her goal is to help preserve movement and improve quality of life through expert, multidisciplinary surgical care delivered with compassion.
Dr. Munger completed her undergraduate studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she played on the soccer team that won the NCAA National Championship. She went on to earn her medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine of USC, before training in orthopaedic surgery at Yale New Haven Hospital in Connecticut. She also pursued a specialized fellowship in musculoskeletal oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
Along with caring for patients, Dr. Munger is passionate about supporting diversity in surgery. While in training, she launched and continues to host the “She Can Fix It” podcast, which shares the stories of women in orthopaedic surgery. She also created a podcast for the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society.
Dr. Munger is actively involved in research and education, with dozens of published papers in medical journals. She is a member of the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society, Orthopaedic Research Society, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society.
