About Me

As an assistant clinical professor of thoracic surgery at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte and City of Hope South Pasadena, Abigail Fong, M.D., M.B.A., offers advanced surgical expertise to patients with conditions such as lung and esophageal cancers, neuroendocrine tumors and sarcomas.

Dr. Fong was drawn to thoracic surgery because of the field’s innovative nature and its potential to create meaningful change in patients’ lives. She collaborates closely with individuals and their families to develop personalized treatment strategies based on each patient’s specific diagnosis, personal needs and long-term health goals.

After receiving her medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, Dr. Fong went on to a general surgery residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She then completed a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pennsylvania and later pursued specialized training in robotic surgery through the American Association for Thoracic Surgery. In addition, she earned an M.B.A. in healthcare administration from the University of Colorado in Denver.

Dr. Fong has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed publications, including a recent article on surgical treatment of small-cell lung cancer featured in the Annals of Thoracic Surgery.

Patient reviews
The patient ratings and comments on this page are obtained from an external Press Ganey® outpatient survey provided to all eligible City of Hope patients within one to two weeks of their treatment occurrence. Raw data from the answers to the survey questions about our physicians are calculated by Press Ganey into a one- to five- star rating. In the spirit of transparency, all patient comments are posted as written by the patient, whether they are positive or negative. We only exclude comments if they are deemed to be slanderous or libelous, contain profanity or vulgar language, or do not relate to the patient's experience with the doctor involved. As a result, the comments are the views and opinions of the patients surveyed and are not endorsed by, and may not necessarily reflect the opinion of, City of Hope.
