About Me

Vanessa Gomez, MSW, is a Social Worker and a member of the behavioral health team at City of Hope® Cancer Center Chicago. In her role, Gomez works in collaboration with patients, their families and their cancer care teams to coordinate a wide range of logistical needs and to provide access to resources including financial assistance, transportation, housing and food security. She also conducts pre-operative and new patient assessments for inpatients at our Chicago location.

Gomez earned her undergraduate degree in social work at Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois, followed by a Master of Arts in social work at George Williams College in Williams Bay, Wisconsin. She also completed a graduate practicum at Arden Shore Child & Family Services in Waukegan, Illinois. Prior to joining City of Hope, she served in roles that worked closely with children and adolescents, including a position as a bilingual program therapist at a hospital in Waukegan.

Outside of her role at City of Hope, where she serves as an advocate for patients as they progress through their unique cancer journey, Gomez enjoys playing volleyball in an informal friends-and-family league.

Patient reviews
The patient ratings and comments on this page are obtained from an external Press Ganey® outpatient survey provided to all eligible City of Hope patients within one to two weeks of their treatment occurrence. Raw data from the answers to the survey questions about our physicians are calculated by Press Ganey into a one- to five- star rating. In the spirit of transparency, all patient comments are posted as written by the patient, whether they are positive or negative. We only exclude comments if they are deemed to be slanderous or libelous, contain profanity or vulgar language, or do not relate to the patient's experience with the doctor involved. As a result, the comments are the views and opinions of the patients surveyed and are not endorsed by, and may not necessarily reflect the opinion of, City of Hope.
