Ankur Parikh, DO

CTCA Medical Director of Precision Medicine

CTCA Philadelphia

"My approach to caring for each patient is to treat him or her as a person, not a disease. I listen to my patients to make sure their needs are addressed and I make sure they have a multidisciplinary approach to their care. I do my best to treat their cancer with advanced, evidence-based therapies, and encourage them to be directly involved in their treatment plan."

“I believe an integrated treatment approach is what is best for patients, and Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) really embodies that,” says Dr. Ankur Parikh, Medical Director of Precision Medicine at CTCA® and Hematologist-Oncologist & Medical Oncologist. “I decided to join CTCA because I was very impressed with the patient care model. I wanted to be part of a team that manages all aspects of what patients need to fight cancer.”

The hematologist-oncologist and medical oncologist became a member of our team of cancer experts at our Philadelphia hospital in 2012, and has a strong interest in the treatment of gastrointestinal cancers. He notes, “I really enjoy the work environment at CTCA. The team is extremely helpful and accommodating. It’s also great to work in a place where you know your patients are being taken very good care of. Communication among the staff and the team approach to patient care are strengths of CTCA.”

Dr. Parikh strives to personalize treatment for each of his patients and educate them so they are a part of the treatment planning and decision-making process. He adds, “I think it’s important to maintain open communication so that we’re on the same page and the patient’s best interests are looked out for.”

Board certified in medical oncology, hematology and internal medicine, Dr. Parikh earned an osteopathic medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. He completed an internal medicine residency at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, followed by a hematology-oncology fellowship at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

Prior to pursuing a medical degree, Dr. Parikh completed a pre-med bachelor’s degree at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri.

Dr. Parikh has served as a principal and associate investigator for clinical research protocols involving myelodysplastic syndrome and aplastic anemia. He has also written book chapters on hematology topics and his work has been published in various peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Parikh is a member of the American Society of Hematology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation and the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Parikh and his wife have two children. He enjoys spending time with his family. His interests include traveling, as well as watching and playing sports. He is a huge Chicago Bulls and Bears fan.

Patient ratings and comments

The patient ratings and comments on this page are obtained from an external Press Ganey® outpatient survey provided to all eligible CTCA patients within one to two weeks of their treatment occurrence. Raw data from the answers to the survey questions about our physicians are calculated by Press Ganey into a one- to five-star rating. In the spirit of transparency, all patient comments are posted as written by the patient, whether they are positive or negative. We only exclude comments if they are deemed to be slanderous or libelous, contain profanity or vulgar language, or do not relate to the patient’s experience with the doctor involved. As a result, the comments are the views and opinions of the patients surveyed and are not endorsed by, and may not necessarily reflect the opinion of, CTCA.

Dr. Parikh spoke to me kindly. He gave background information and answered all of my questions, concerns in no hurry on his part. He was patient with me. I was given further information to help me understand the reality of my health situation; with no false promises. The treatment choices were clearly spoken; I appreciated his confidence which his personal presence gave to me. Confidence in his voice, reality for me and answering my questions.

About our star ratings

The patient star ratings are an average of all responses to physician-related questions on our nationally recognized Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey.

Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) measures patient satisfaction as part of our effort toward continuous improvement in all aspects of the patient experience. We partner with Press Ganey®, a third-party-validated organization with over 30 years of experience supporting over 26,000 health care organizations, to survey our patients about their recent experiences at CTCA®.

Why is this information important?

CTCA is committed to transparency. Not only do the surveys allow us to continuously improve our services, but we hope these ratings will help you feel confident in your decision to seek care at CTCA.

How are the star scores calculated?

All eligible CTCA patients receive a survey from Press Ganey within one to two weeks after their treatment occurrence. In addition to being asked about their overall experience at CTCA, patients are asked to score the level of confidence they have in their provider, as well as the likelihood they will recommend the physician to others. Raw data from the answers to the survey questions about our physicians are calculated by Press Ganey into a one- to five-star rating, with one star being the lowest possible rating and five stars being the highest.

Are all comments included?

In the spirit of transparency, all patient comments are posted as written by the patient, whether they are positive or negative. Patients’ names and other identifying information are removed from the comments for confidentiality and patient privacy. We only exclude comments if they are deemed to be slanderous or libelous, contain profanity or vulgar language, do not relate to the patient’s experience with the doctor involved, or are statements that cannot be verified as factual. As a result, the comments are the views and opinions of the patients surveyed and are not endorsed by, and may not necessarily reflect the opinion of, CTCA. All ratings are included even if a comment is excluded.

Why don’t all physicians have ratings and comments?

Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys. This helps us ensure that the sample size is large enough to give you an accurate representation of the physician's care.

Star ratings and comments are not available for all physicians or specialties. The validated Press Ganey survey captures patient experience feedback with the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy, which include only medical, radiation and in-office gynecologic oncology services. Gynecologic surgeries are not evaluated at this time because a different survey tool would be required.

Can anyone provide ratings and responses for a physician?

No. Only patients who are under the care of the physician can provide a response through the Press Ganey survey. Eligible patients receive the survey either by mail or email after their treatment occurrence. Survey responses are completely voluntary.

How do you protect patient information for those who have responded to the survey?

Patient privacy is of the utmost importance to us. If a review comment includes any information that could identify a patient (e.g., name, etc.), it is removed from the comment prior to publishing on the physician’s bio page. All patient information that has been removed from a comment is designated with an ellipsis, or “[…]”.

How often are the scores updated?

Press Ganey surveys are sent out all year long. All patient ratings and reviews are regularly updated and published within a month of receiving the responses. Ratings and reviews remain on a physician’s bio page for one year after being published. After that time period, the ratings and reviews older than a year are removed to ensure the most current information is available.
