Pat Basu, MD, MBA, named President and Chief Executive Officer of Cancer Treatment Centers of America

Health care innovator to lead organization with focus on growing access to precision cancer care and individualized support services across the care continuum

BOCA RATON, Fla. – April 3, 2019 – Pat A. Basu, MD, MBA, an accomplished health care executive and entrepreneur, has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Cancer Treatment Centers of America Global, Inc., which includes the existing Comprehensive Cancer Care Network of Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) hospitals and outpatient care centers as well as new business ventures designed to expand access to higher quality and more affordable cancer care. As CEO, Pat will strengthen and expand the network’s current clinical services while developing new businesses that leverage data, technology, population health and ecosystem partnerships in the fight against cancer. He will also serve as a member of the CTCA® National Board of Directors.

About Pat Basu, MD, MBA

Dr. Pat Basu is a business leader, physician and entrepreneur who has led corporate, government, private equity and clinical organizations. A former Stanford University Medical Center physician and White House Advisor, Dr. Basu recently served as a partner at Chicago Pacific Founders Private Equity and at Pritzker Group Venture Capital. Previously, he served on the Executive Leader Team at UnitedHealth Group and as Senior Vice President at Optum where he was responsible for leading thousands of employees and a $9 billion P&L for OptumCare, the largest physician practice portfolio and value-based care business in the nation.

In addition, Dr. Basu helped start Doctor On Demand, the nation’s largest provider of telehealth video visits which partners with insurers and employers to provide access for over 30 million Americans. He also served as President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Medical Officer for vRad, the nation's largest provider of radiology, caring for 8 million patients annually through more than 2,500 hospital, provider and health plan clients.

Dr. Basu took leave from Stanford to serve as a White House Fellow and Senior Advisor. He has delivered keynote addresses at over 150 corporations and professional societies and consulted for several Fortune 500 firms, venture capital firms and health systems. He serves as a Regional Commissioner of the White House Fellows, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the Board for the University of Illinois and Stanford Medical Alumni Association.

Dr. Basu still cares for veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces on a part-time basis in the VA hospital system. He has also served as visiting faculty at seven major U.S. universities and founding faculty director of the Health Policy and Finance course at Stanford. Dr. Basu is a recipient of the AMA’s Excellence in Medicine Award, Crain’s Chicago Business 40 Under 40 Award, Stanford Medicine’s Specialist Physician of the Year Award, as well as the University of Chicago Booth School of Business’ Distinguished Alumni Award and University of Illinois Distinguished Alumni Award. Dr. Basu earned an MBA with Honors from the University of Chicago and a BA in mechanical engineering with Honors from the University of Illinois.
