About Me

Alejandro De Gorordo, MD, joined City of Hope® Cancer Center in Zion, Illinois in July 2023 as an Interventional Pain Management Physician, working to improving quality of life for his patients by helping them manage and control their pain, whether they’re being treated in the hospital’s pain clinic, as an in-patient or during operating room procedures. To offer alternatives to narcotics, he and his colleagues use leading-edge technologies such as spinal cord stimulators and targeted drug-delivery pumps.

Dr. De Gorordo has particular expertise in radiofrequency ablation of nerves—a precise, minimally invasive procedure for chronic pain using heat from high-frequency radio waves—as well as Osteocool™ radiofrequency ablation technology for bone tumors.

“My overall goal for my patients is to significantly improve their quality of life by reducing and managing their pain, regardless of the underlying condition,” he says. “Being able to offer people comfort and relief is personally meaningful to me.”

Dr. De Gorordo was drawn to City of Hope by its reputation for excellence in pain management and for the chance to treat joint pain in a diverse patient population. His training mentor, a City of Hope physician, cited the team-oriented work environment and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patient care—two key priorities for Dr. De Gorordo—in encouraging him to consider City of Hope.

After earning his medical degree at the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas Facultad de Medicina de Tampico in Mexico, Dr. De Gorordo completed an internship at the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social in Reynosa, Mexico. He went on to pursue observerships at St. Joseph Medical Center in Houston, the Texas Gastroenterology Institute in McAllen, Texas, and St. Joseph Medical Center in Houston.

His further postgraduate education included an internal medicine residency at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, an anesthesiology residency at UMass Chan Medical School-Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts, and an interventional pain management fellowship at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Chicago.

In his free time, Dr. De Gorordo finds balance by spending quality time with his close-knit family and barbecuing, playing golf, traveling and gardening.

Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
