About Me

Dr. Nazia Khatoon joined City of Hope Chicago in August 2023 as a Pathologist, board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, working with a multidisciplinary team and analyzing test results to deliver accurate, detailed pathology reports that help oncologists recommend appropriate treatment options. She’s particularly interested in surgical pathology and cytopathology.

Dr. Khatoon knew from a young age that she wanted to pursue a career in medicine. Her pathology rotations in medical school showed her how pathology provided minute details the care team needed to provide quality, personalized care to every patient, inspiring her eventual career in this specialty.

Dr. Khatoon completed her medical school training at Deccan College of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad, India, where she received distinctions in anatomy, biochemistry and physiology. She went on to complete her residency in combined anatomic and clinical pathology at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she also served as the chief resident during her final year of residency. After her first fellowship in surgical pathology at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, she finished a second fellowship in cytopathology at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

After developing her expertise throughout her schooling and training, Dr. Khatoon aspired to join the team at City of Hope, where she found a common appreciation for putting the patient first. “I love how everyone is passionate about excellent patient care here” she says. “I immediately felt a great camaraderie amongst the team members here and wanted to be a part of such an amazing professional team.”

During her residency, Dr. Khatoon participated in multiple research studies, including an ongoing study on pancreatic carcinoma, and has presented her work nationally at multiple annual meetings. She’s a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the American Society for Cytopathology and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.

Outside of City of Hope, Dr. Khatoon loves reading and gardening but values spending time with her family.

Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
