Meet Dr. Khattab

Mazen Khattab, MD, CPE, joined City of Hope® in November 2023. As a Medical Oncologist at City of Hope Cancer Center Phoenix, he primarily treats patients at the North Phoenix Outpatient Care Center. Triple-board certified, in internal medicine, hematology and medical oncology, he’s served the community in Phoenix since 2010, building deep expertise in treating all types of cancers, with a specialized focus on breast cancer and substantial experience treating lung and gastrointestinal cancers.

Dr. Khattab’s goal is to help his patients have quality of life during and after treatment. With the wide array of resources that City of Hope devotes to patient care, he incorporates the up-to-date therapies in his treatment plans, including innovative protocols only available through clinical trials.

“Every person who has cancer deserves the highest quality of care, to give them the best chance at positive outcomes and well-being throughout survivorship. The way City of Hope integrates the leading-edge innovations in treatments with expert providers and a deeply embedded culture of compassion makes this the perfect place for me to make a difference in the lives of as many patients as possible.”

Dr. Khattab wanted to be a physician ever since he was a young child in Syria, captivated by the idea of a career centered on helping others. His focus on oncology was inspired by a family member’s cancer journey while Dr. Khattab was studying medicine at the University of Damascus in Syria.

After earning his degree, he pursued an internal medicine residency at the Northeast Ohio Medical University in Youngstown, Ohio, where he was recognized as Intern of the Year and received an award for excellence in patient care. He completed fellowship training in hematology and oncology at Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

A former assistant professor and assistant residency director at Western Reserve Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Dr Khattab is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Outside of City of Hope, Dr. Khattab loves spending time with his wife and children and, when their schedule allows, traveling.
