About Me

Laura C. Farrington, DO, is a medical oncologist at City of Hope Chicago. After spending most of her childhood caring for relatives with cancer, she believes she was born to be an oncologist.

“I like building strong relationships with my patients. I also like knowing that I can treat my patients, and improve their quality of life,” says Dr. Farrington.

As a medical oncologist at our Chicago hospital, Dr. Farrington believes in patient empowered care. “To me, patient empowered care means choices. A physician should not just tell a patient what to do, but help the patient decide which path is best for them,” says Dr. Farrington.

Her role as a medical oncologist allows her to form positive relationships with her patients.

“Part of what a physician does is help the patient understand a disease and its treatment. Another aspect of what a physician needs to do is to understand what is important to each individual patient, in order to cater recommendations to their specific needs,” says Dr. Farrington.

Board certified in medical oncology, Dr. Farrington is a member of numerous professional organizations, including American Society of Clinical Oncology and Connective Tissue Oncology Society.

Dr. Farrington believes that the whole-person approach to treating cancer is what makes City of Hope different than other hospitals.

“A patient is not just a disease. We are not just treating cancer. We are treating a person and using every tool possible to improve length and quality of life,” says Dr. Farrington.

In her spare time, Dr. Farrington enjoys spending time with her young children. She also likes being active and playing sports.

Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
