Jessica Schreck, MSHS, PA-C, joined City of Hope in April 2023, serving as a Physician Assistant at our Phoenix-area hospital and the Scottsdale and North Phoenix Outpatient Care Centers. Schreck focuses on medical oncology, cancer risk assessment and genetic testing and collaborates closely with medical oncologists to evaluate patients, develop and initiate treatment plans, order chemotherapy and address other patient needs.
Schreck was inspired to come to City of Hope after participating in its 2022-23 Intensive Course in Genetic Cancer Risk Assessment. Through this course, Schreck gained valuable skills and expertise in high-risk cancer genetics, which she now brings to the Cancer Screening and Prevention Program at City of Hope Phoenix. Her patients have access to a multidisciplinary team that can provide risk-appropriate options for cancer surveillance and prevention as part of the cancer risk assessment, including imaging, chemopreventive and surgical interventions.
“I was impressed by City of Hope’s strong reputation in genomic medicine,” Schreck says. “Then, after taking this course in cancer risk assessment, I knew for certain that I wanted to continue my career at City of Hope.”
Schreck has more than a decade of experience in oncological treatment, particularly concentrating on oncology genetic testing. She treats patients who’ve been diagnosed with a variety of types and stages of cancers, as well as non-oncology patients seeking cancer risk assessments and educational services. Schreck works with patients at all points in their treatment journeys, from preventative care to management of follow-up and chemotherapy visits.
Schreck was first drawn to the medical field by a desire to work as part of a health care team and develop meaningful relationships with patients. She chose to specialize in oncology, specifically, because of the unique challenges it presents, including the opportunity to perform more complex procedures than she would as a Physician Assistant supporting an internal medicine team.
Schreck earned her Bachelor of Science from Arizona State University. She went on to complete her Master of Science in Health Sciences and Physician Assistant Studies at George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C.
