About Me

In September 2019, Dr. Jalal Baig joined City of Hope at the Outpatient Care Center in Gurnee, Illinois. The center offers patients in and around the Far North Chicago suburb convenient access to personalized cancer treatment closer to home. He also treats patients at our City of Hope Chicago hospital.

As a Medical Oncologist at City of Hope, Dr. Baig evaluates and treats patients with various types and stages of cancer. He works with each patient to develop a personalized treatment plan and collaborates with a multidisciplinary care team to implement it. Dr. Baig takes time to educate his patients and their family members, to help them understand their treatment options.

“I want my patients to feel comfortable, and I try to create an environment where they can ask questions and share their concerns freely,” says Dr. Baig. “I take as much time as needed to help my patients feel empowered and informed by having a thorough understanding of their cancer and treatment options.”

Dr. Baig received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois. He earned a medical degree from Rosalind Franklin University in North Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Baig completed an internal medicine residency at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He went on to complete a fellowship in hematology/oncology from the University of Illinois at Chicago in Chicago, Illinois.

Board certified in medical oncology, internal medicine and hematology & oncology, Dr. Baig has an interest in clinical research and frequently presents at national conferences. He is also a freelance writer with work published in The Washington Post, The Guardian, The Atlantic, Slate, Vice, Salon and STAT News. When not caring for patients, Dr. Baig enjoys spending time with family, writing, traveling and exploring Chicago’s restaurant scene.

Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
