Cervical cancer care

DISCOVER OUR DIFFERENCE IN PERSONALIZED CANCER TREATMENT

At City of Hope, we understand that cervical cancer is a complex disease requiring expert treatment.
That’s why our mission is to put you at the center of your care, working in collaboration with you, and one another, to develop a comprehensive treatment plan personalized to your individual needs, goals and preferences. Our gynecologic oncologists are trained and experienced in all stages of cervical cancer, from diagnosing the disease, to treating it and managing its side effects, to survivorship. Your treatment plan may include chemotherapy, immunotherapy and/or hormone therapy, as well integrative care therapies designed to help manage side effects like fatigue, nausea and neuropathy.

How are we different?

Gynecologic cancer focus

Cervical cancer is such an important focus at City of Hope that of our hospitals in Atlanta, Chicago and Phoenix have a Gynecologic Cancer Center dedicated to treating patients with all types and stages of the disease. The multidisciplinary teams at each of our centers are singularly focused on screening, diagnosing and treating gynecologic cancers using standard-of-care and, when appropriate, innovative precision medicine treatments. They can also help provide fertility-sparing options, when possible, for women who want to preserve their ability to have children.

Comprehensive team approach

Your cervical cancer care team works all under one roof. That means you have access to state-of-the-art cancer treatments and supportive care therapies all in one location. Your team will be led by a fellowship-trained gynecologic oncologist, and your treatment plan is coordinated by a care manager dedicated to orchestrating your schedule, communicating with the rest of your care team, getting your questions answered and helping you access your test results in a timely manner. Your care team may also include a medical, surgical and/or radiation oncologist, a genetic counselor, an interventional radiologist, oncology nurses and a variety of supportive care providers, including a pelvic floor therapist.

Whole-person care

Our doctors work with supportive care providers to deliver evidence-informed therapies designed to address the symptoms of cervical cancer and the side effects of treatment. Some cervical cancer patients experience pain, nausea and malnutrition. Our patients can meet with a pain management physician to help reduce pain and an oncology-trained dietitian, who may recommend a personalized nutrition plan to address nausea and malnutrition. The goal of integrative care is to keep you strong so you can better tolerate your treatments and maintain your quality of life.

“I work with a team of doctors and clinicians to offer a comforting approach to developing and managing each patient’s treatment plan. I take the time to talk with all my patients and answer any questions they may have.”

Access to clinical trials

Clinical trials are critical tools researchers and doctors use to determine the safety and effectiveness of new drugs and therapies. At City of Hope, we are committed to offering our patients innovative and new cancer treatments, including access to clinical trials when appropriate. These trials may provide therapies that are not yet widely available to qualified patients who have exhausted conventional treatment options or whose cancer is advanced or difficult to treat. Our cancer doctors and researchers will work with you to determine whether you qualify for a trial and, if so, help you enroll.

I was impressed from the start with the coordination of appointments and how they gathered my medical records. When I walked in the front doors, the lobby felt so peaceful and relaxing. I was immediately greeted and welcomed."
