Types of uterine cancer
Every uterine cancer patient is different. The cancer experts at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) have extensive experience in properly staging and diagnosing the disease, and developing a treatment plan that's tailored to your specific type of uterine cancer.
There are two primary types of uterine cancer, which develop in different parts of the uterus.
- Endometrial cancer develops in the lining of the uterus, called the endometrium. This is the most common type of uterine cancer, accounting for more than 95 percent of cases.
- Uterine sarcoma is a more rare type of uterine cancer, and forms in the muscles or other tissues of the uterus.
Cervical cancer develops in the lower part of the uterus, the cervix, and is not a type of uterine cancer.
