IMRT for spinal cancer
Because of its accuracy, IMRT helps to reduce damage to healthy spinal tissue and reduce side effects. As a result, IMRT may be useful when treating tumors that are close to critical structures, such as the spinal cord.
Compared to standard radiotherapy, IMRT allows our radiation oncologists to use higher doses of radiation from any angle, and shape radiation beams to the spinal tumor. By doing so, IMRT helps to spare healthy spinal tissues and reduce side effects.
