Naturopathic Medicine

naturopathic medicine
"Our goal is to provide patients with a clear and concise understanding of naturopathic medicine, and for them to feel supported in using naturopathic medicine as a safe and powerful part of their cancer-fighting plan."

-Katherine Anderson, ND, FABNO, Chief, Division of Naturopathic Medicine

Our department

Naturopathic oncology providers are experts in our supportive care program at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA). Naturopathic medicine is a tool to support oncology patients undergoing conventional treatment and in survivorship by providing supportive therapies to help with:

  • Reducing harmful side effects from  cancer treatments such as nausea, pain or fatigue
  • Improving  quality of life

Naturopathic medicine is designed to work in conjunction with conventional treatment to help address treatment-related side effects. Naturopathic medicine providers review and monitor your dietary supplements to help you avoid potential drug-herb and drug-nutrient interactions.

Naturopathic therapies

Every patent at CTCA® has an option to incorporate naturopathic medicine into your care plan. If you choose to meet with an naturopathic oncology provider, he or she will review your history and make suggestions that may include:

  • Vitamins
  • Minerals
  • Dietary supplements
  • Botanical and herbal medicines
  • Homeopathic remedies, mainly involving plant extracts and minerals
  • Physical therapy and exercise therapy, including massage and other gentle techniques applied to deep muscles and joints for therapeutic purposes
  • Lifestyle counseling on managing certain medical conditions with foods and nutritional supplements to reduce complications and side effects
  • Acupuncture provided by some of our naturopathic oncology providers

Our naturopathic oncology providers have extensive knowledge of the impacts of radiation, chemotherapy and other conventional cancer treatments. They are available to provide input on your treatment plan and are in regular communication with your  oncology team at CTCA. The Naturopathic Medicine Department also provides an educational component as well. Programs include information about vitamin and mineral supplements, natural remedies, nutritional guidance, lifestyle changes and stress management techniques.
