"Symptoms that may respond almost immediately to acupuncture include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, anxiety, pain, and fatigue. Every acupuncture treatment is individualized."

- Brandy Valentine, MAcOM, LAc, Acupuncturist

Our program

Acupuncture is a form of ancient Chinese medicine in which fine, sterile needles are applied to specific areas of the body, or acupoints, to stimulate energy flow (or “chi”). The needles are usually left in place for about 30 minutes. Skilled acupuncturists cause virtually no pain.

Energy is believed to circulate throughout the body along specific pathways called meridians. When energy is flowing freely through these meridians, the body is healthy. When the flow of energy is disturbed or off-balance, pain or illness may occur. A goal of acupuncture is to restore balance and healthy energy flow to the body to control pain and other symptoms.

The acupuncturists at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) are experienced practitioners who work to alleviate treatment-related side effects, such as nausea, vomiting and pain, as well as other common symptoms, such as stress, fatigue and insomnia. As you receive treatments, your acupuncturist will be in regular communication with your care team to evaluate your progress.

The acupuncture team at CTCA in Tulsa

The acupuncture team at CTCA® in Tulsa provides acupuncture treatment to help alleviate treatment-related side effects, such as peripheral neuropathy, nausea, vomiting and pain.

Brandy Valentine, MAcOM, LAc, a full-time acupuncturist in the hospital’s Naturopathic Medicine Department, says patients who elect to have acupuncture often report increases in energy, improved sleep and digestion, and elevated mood.

“Each acupuncture treatment focuses on the patient as a whole," Valentine says. "We are not only addressing isolated problems such as nausea. Instead, we are treating you, as a person, which includes your emotions, your feelings, your immune system and all functions that assist in your recovery."
