For close to two decades, Vera Boone has graced the halls of Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) in Tulsa. She is available to help address the immediate needs of many of our patients.
As a physician assistant (PA) in our Tulsa hospital's Radiation Oncology Department, Boone helps to evaluate, monitor and coordinate treatment for patients who are undergoing radiation therapy. She meets with each of these patients at least once a week. One of her other responsibilities is to teach patients who will receive amifostine (a radioprotective drug) about the medication.
Boone also obtained significant experience in medical oncology as she worked alongside Dr. Hans Nevinny at CTCA® in Tulsa, prior to his retirement.
Boone completed a bachelor’s of science degree in physician assistant studies at Wichita State University in 1992. She graduated cum laude. Shortly after receiving her degree, she attained her PA certification from the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants.
Before pursuing her medical studies, Boone obtained a bachelor’s of science degree in education and German from Fort Hays State University.
Prior to joining CTCA, Boone served as a PA at an internal medicine clinic in Cary, Illinois and at Touhy Health Center of Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Chicago. While at these facilities, she had several responsibilities. These included educating patients on chronic diseases and preventative healthcare and providing medical care to patients suffering from diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and coronary artery disease. During her tenure at Touhy Health Center, she provided screening and physicals for refugee families from Bosnia, Russia and Tibet. She also offered screening, counseling and treatment for tuberculosis.
Boone is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Oklahoma Academy of Physician Assistants.
Patient ratings and comments
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
