An advanced registered nurse practitioner at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) in Tulsa, Debbie Mewbourne serves patients in the hospital’s Symptom Management Quality of Life Clinic, where she addresses their immediate medical needs.
“No matter the symptom or issue—be it chest pain, fever, diabetes or blood pressure—I am here to assess and help treat that problem,” says Mewbourne. She regularly obtains patients’ medical histories, performs physical examinations and comprehensive assessments, orders and interprets lab and imaging tests, prescribes medication to treat symptoms and side effects, and educates patients and their families.
Mewbourne has been a nurse since 1994. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Central Oklahoma and a Master of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa. She has helped care for cancer patients at hospitals and cancer care clinics in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
Mewbourne joined the CTCA® team in October 2010. “What I enjoy most is the authenticity, warmth and compassion exemplified by each and every person I come in contact with at CTCA," she shares. "It is not only extended to our patients, but among employees. It is truly a pleasure to be surrounded by people who are so genuine.”
In 2005, Mewbourne was honored with an award from the Oklahoma Society of Clinical Oncology for her efforts as a patient advocate.
Mewbourne is certified as an adult nurse practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She is also recognized as a certified breast care nurse and oncology certified nurse. Mewbourne is a member of several nursing organizations, including the American Nurses Association, Oklahoma Nurses Association and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Patient ratings and comments
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
