"It is a pleasure to work with colleagues who truly care about their patients," says Dr. Bryan Simms, Anesthesiologist at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) near Tulsa.
Dr. Simms began his studies at the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma, and completed his Doctor of Osteopathy degree at Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, also in Tulsa. After a rotating internship at Richmond Heights General Hospital in Richmond Heights, OH, Dr. Simms completed a three-year residency in anesthesiology at Michigan Osteopathic Medical Center in Detroit, providing care in several units including cardiothoracic, pediatrics and neuroanesthesia.
With more than 25 years of experience, Dr. Simms is a skilled anesthesiologist who has provided care in a variety of health care settings, including group practices, regional medical centers and hospitals in the Tulsa area. He served as Medical Director of the Department of Anesthesia at the former SouthCrest Hospital in Tulsa, as Executive Director for Citywide Anesthesia of Tulsa, and as Chairman of the Department of Anesthesia at Tulsa Regional Medical Center. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Tulsa Osteopathic Medical Society, and is a past president. Most recently, he was Chief of Staff and Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology and Surgery at St. John Sapulpa Hospital, in Sapulpa, OK.
Dr. Simms is Board Certified in Anesthesiology by the American Osteopathic Board of Anesthesiology. He is a Fellow of the American Osteopathic College of Anesthesiology. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the American Osteopathic College of Anesthesiologists, and local professional medical societies.
Nationally, Dr. Simms has served on the Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists at the American Osteopathic Association as a member of its Executive Committee. He has also served as chairman of the American Osteopathic Board of Anesthesiology.
Since September 2015, Dr. Simms has been providing anesthesiology care at CTCA for patients undergoing complex surgery and diagnostic procedures. While he focuses on providing excellent medical care, Dr. Simms also makes a point of connecting with his patients as individuals. “Making a patient smile, even in the face of illness and surgery, has been a goal of mine since I began practicing medicine,” he says.
When he is not at CTCA, Dr. Simms enjoys spending time with his wife of 27 years. He fishes, plays golf and ice hockey, works on his farm, and goes for walks with their two golden retrievers.
