An endocrinologist for over a decade, Dr. Sabrina Rene specializes in diabetes management, as well as thyroid concerns. She is available at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Southeastern to assist patients with existing endocrine issues, in addition to working with patients whose treatments may increase the risk of developing endocrine conditions, such as diabetes.
A proponent of the team approach to treatment, Dr. Rene works with CTCA dietitians to help monitor at-risk patients’ diets and insure that insulin remains at an appropriate level.
Dr. Rene earned a bachelor of arts in biology from New York University, and a medical degree at Howard University in Washington, D.C. She completed her residency at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, and a fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at Emory University in Atlanta.
Dr. Rene is a member of The Endocrine Society, American Diabetes Association, American Association of Clinical Endocrinology, Atlanta Women’s Medical Alliance and National Medical Association. Prior to working with CTCA, she worked as a solo endocrinologist with The South Atlanta Center for Endocrinology and then later joined Endocrine Consultants. PC in 2008.
With several family members who have lived with diabetes, focusing on endocrinology has always been of interest to Dr. Rene. "Many people think that endocrinology just addresses diabetes, but it’s a lot more," says Dr. Rene. "There are so many hormones in the body that have an impact on your mood, weight and other important functions."
A lover of music, Dr. Rene is active in her church choir. She also enjoys the arts and outdoor activities.
Dr. Rene is a regional speaker regarding topics such as pre-diabetes, metabolic syndrome, thyroid disease and diabetes management. She has also organized and participated in several community-based health fairs.
Patient Ratings and Comments
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical oncologists and radiation oncologists. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
