“I believe that patients should be actively involved in the decision-making about their own care,” says Rhonwynn Dozier, Physician Assistant with the Breast Intake Team at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA). “The Patient-Empowered Care® model at CTCA® facilitates that involvement.”
Dozier joined CTCA Atlanta in July 2014. As part of the hospital’s Breast Intake Team, she assists patients through all aspects of their care. “My overall goal is for my patients to gain knowledge about their disease so that they may become an informed team member in the planning of their care,” says Dozier.
Initially trained as a nurse, Dozier earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Georgia Baptist College of Nursing in Atlanta in 1999. After graduation, she was a cardiothoracic nurse and then neonatal intensive care nurse at health facilities in the Atlanta area until 2000. She cared for patients during treatment and served as a resource for patients and families.
From 2000 to 2002, Dozier was a public health nurse with a county health department, providing and tracking immunizations, developing patient care plans and assisting with state health programs for children and infants.
Dozier then returned to school for her a Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant degree, which she earned at Emory University in Atlanta in 2004. Since 2005, she has worked as a physician assistant in various health care settings.
In 2009, Dozier completed the Nurse Re-entry Program at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia. Before joining CTCA, Dozier worked at a breast health clinic in Georgia.
Dozier is licensed as a Registered Nurse and Physician Assistant by the State of Georgia. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
When she’s not working, Dozier enjoys spending time with her children and family, traveling, and listening to music.
Patient ratings and comments
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
