“I love the esprit de corps of the team here, and the collaborative nature of our approach,” says Dr. John Geisler, Gynecologic Oncologist at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA), Atlanta.

Dr. Geisler is a renowned physician and researcher focused on gynecologic oncology. His work on fertility-sparing therapies, uterine and ovarian sarcomas, and radical surgery for ovarian cancer and other gynecologic malignancies have led patients from around the world to seek his care.

After completing his Bachelor of Science at the University of Michigan, Dr. Geisler completed his Doctor of Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine. His postgraduate training began with a residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Loyola University Medical Center, followed by a preliminary medicine residency and four-year residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at St. Vincent Hospitals and Health Service. He received the prestigious Galloway Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He then completed fellowships in Pelvic Surgery and Gynecologic Oncology, at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics.

Dr. Geisler has held numerous professional and academic positions. He was a gynecologic oncologist in private practice for several years in Indiana, where also served as Director of Oncology Research at St. Vincent Hospital & Health Services. He later became Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Director of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Toledo College of Medicine & Life Sciences, where he was also Associate Program Director of the Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency. He later became Chief of the Ob/Gyn Clinical Service and Director of the Ob/Gyn Third-Year Clerkship. Most recently, he was a Gynecologic Oncologist at a large regional medical center in Georgia and Professor of Gynecologic Oncology at the Georgia Regents University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership.

U.S. News & World Report named Dr. Geisler a Top Doctor in the nation for several years and he has also been ranked among the top 100 medical professional worldwide. He has won awards for teaching and research, and serves on the editorial board and as peer reviewer for the most influential journals in gynecologic oncology.

Dr. Geisler has conducted numerous federally funded clinical trials that have advanced the treatment of gynecologic malignancies. He has published more than 120 papers on the care of women with ovarian, endometrial, cervical, vaginal and vulvar cancer in influential medical journals including Cancer,  Gynecologic Oncology, Journal of Cancer Therapy, International Journal of Gynecologic Cancer, and American Journal of Clinical Oncology, among others.

Licensed by the States of Illinois, Oklahoma, Georgia, Indiana and Ohio, Dr. Geisler is Board Certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology by the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology. He is a member of the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists, the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, the International Gynecologic Cancer Society, the American Association for Cancer Research, and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Geisler joined CTCA® Atlanta in August 2015. Some of his innovations include the incorporation of robotic surgery into the treatment of gynecologic malignancies and personalized therapy using genomics to help determine the optimal chemotherapy regimen. In October 2015, while continuing to serve patients at the Atlanta-area hospital, Dr. Geisler began seeing gynecologic cancer patients at CTCA in Tulsa.

When he is not at CTCA, Dr. Geisler spends time with his wife, who is also a gynecologic oncologist at CTCA, and their three children.

Patient ratings and comments

The patient ratings and comments on this page are obtained from an external Press Ganey® outpatient survey provided to all eligible CTCA patients within one to two weeks of their treatment occurrence. Raw data from the answers to the survey questions about our physicians are calculated by Press Ganey into a one- to five-star rating. In the spirit of transparency, all patient comments are posted as written by the patient, whether they are positive or negative. We only exclude comments if they are deemed to be slanderous or libelous, contain profanity or vulgar language, or do not relate to the patient’s experience with the doctor involved. As a result, the comments are the views and opinions of the patients surveyed and are not endorsed by, and may not necessarily reflect the opinion of, CTCA.

Dr. John Geisler seemed very knowledgeable; we like him very much. He apologized for and explained why he was an hour late for appt as soon as he arrived on the floor. Would have been nice if the nurse had explained as soon as it was apparent he would be late. We waited the full hour without an explanation/nurse contact. Were starting to pace the hallway/try to find someone who knew just before he arrived.

For some reason the Dr. gave me an information that was misleading.Wen I requested for my medical records to be sent to local oncologist to follow his recommendations, the lab test he told me was that was positive was actually negative but it did not change the treatment protocol.

About our star ratings

The patient star ratings are an average of all responses to physician-related questions on our nationally recognized Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey.

Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) measures patient satisfaction as part of our effort toward continuous improvement in all aspects of the patient experience. We partner with Press Ganey®, a third-party-validated organization with over 30 years of experience supporting over 26,000 health care organizations, to survey our patients about their recent experiences at CTCA®.

Why is this information important?

CTCA is committed to transparency. Not only do the surveys allow us to continuously improve our services, but we hope these ratings will help you feel confident in your decision to seek care at CTCA.

How are the star scores calculated?

All eligible CTCA patients receive a survey from Press Ganey within one to two weeks after their treatment occurrence. In addition to being asked about their overall experience at CTCA, patients are asked to score the level of confidence they have in their provider, as well as the likelihood they will recommend the physician to others. Raw data from the answers to the survey questions about our physicians are calculated by Press Ganey into a one- to five-star rating, with one star being the lowest possible rating and five stars being the highest.

Are all comments included?

In the spirit of transparency, all patient comments are posted as written by the patient, whether they are positive or negative. Patients’ names and other identifying information are removed from the comments for confidentiality and patient privacy. We only exclude comments if they are deemed to be slanderous or libelous, contain profanity or vulgar language, do not relate to the patient’s experience with the doctor involved, or are statements that cannot be verified as factual. As a result, the comments are the views and opinions of the patients surveyed and are not endorsed by, and may not necessarily reflect the opinion of, CTCA. All ratings are included even if a comment is excluded.

Why don’t all physicians have ratings and comments?

Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys. This helps us ensure that the sample size is large enough to give you an accurate representation of the physician's care.

Star ratings and comments are not available for all physicians or specialties. The validated Press Ganey survey captures patient experience feedback with the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy, which include only medical, radiation and in-office gynecologic oncology services. Gynecologic surgeries are not evaluated at this time because a different survey tool would be required.

Can anyone provide ratings and responses for a physician?

No. Only patients who are under the care of the physician can provide a response through the Press Ganey survey. Eligible patients receive the survey either by mail or email after their treatment occurrence. Survey responses are completely voluntary.

How do you protect patient information for those who have responded to the survey?

Patient privacy is of the utmost importance to us. If a review comment includes any information that could identify a patient (e.g., name, etc.), it is removed from the comment prior to publishing on the physician’s bio page. All patient information that has been removed from a comment is designated with an ellipsis, or “[…]”.

How often are the scores updated?

Press Ganey surveys are sent out all year long. All patient ratings and reviews are regularly updated and published within a month of receiving the responses. Ratings and reviews remain on a physician’s bio page for one year after being published. After that time period, the ratings and reviews older than a year are removed to ensure the most current information is available.
