EBRT for soft tissue sarcoma

Specific advantages of External Beam Radiation Therapy for soft tissue sarcoma include the following:

  • EBRT is an outpatient procedure. It involves the use of therapeutic radiation for the treatment of soft tissue sarcomas. It is commonly used prior to or following surgical removal of the primary tumor to decrease the risk of recurrence.
  • EBRT is the first-line treatment for inoperable soft tissue sarcomas. The technique does not carry the standard risks or complications associated with major surgery for soft tissue sarcoma, which may include surgical bleeding, post-operative pain or the risk of stroke, heart attack or blood clot.
  • The procedure itself is painless.
  • EBRT poses no risk of radioactivity to you or others with whom you have contact. As you undergo EBRT, you may continue normal activities with family and friends.
