BOCA RATON, Fla., August 14, 2018–Cancer Treatment Centers of America® Global, Inc. (CTCA) recently announced enterprise-wide promotions, elevating two clinicians to national leadership roles. Alan Yahanda, MD, FACS, Chief of Staff at CTCA® Atlanta was promoted to Chair of the Department of Surgery and Arturo Loaiza-Bonilla, MD, MSEd, FACP, Chief of Medical Oncology and Medical Director of Research at CTCA Philadelphia has been named Vice Chair of the Department of Medical Oncology.

Dr. Alan Yahanda, a renowned surgical oncologist with a distinguished academic, teaching and clinical career, earned a medical degree from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, where he also completed his general surgery residency. Following residency, he served as Assistant Chief of Service in the Department of Surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Yahanda also was awarded two Fellowships: one in pediatric surgery research from John Hopkins University and a second in surgical oncology from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston.
During his notable medical career, Dr. Yahanda has been published in more than 20 peer-reviewed medical journals and oncology publications. He also contributed chapters to numerous surgical and oncology books and earned such distinctions as the William W. Coon Teaching Award in General Surgery from the University of Michigan, the Imbembo Resident Teaching Award from the Department of Surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Merck Award in Chemistry from the University of Virginia.
Dr. Yahanda has also been a member of and held top leadership positions for several professional organizations including the Society of Surgical Oncology, American College of Surgeons and the Midwest Surgical Association and was the State Chair for Indiana for the Commission on Cancer (CoC).
Dr. Arturo Loaiza-Bonilla, a prominent medical oncologist with a distinguished academic and clinical career, earned a medical degree from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá, Colombia. Following medical school, he completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Harbor Hospital Center, Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Bonilla completed a Fellowship in hematology and oncology from the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine in Miami, Florida.
Prior to joining CTCA, Dr. Bonilla served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, where he also completed his master’s degree in medical education.
Dr. Bonilla has been published in numerous medical journals and oncology publications. He is a reviewer and counselor for several journals, special interest groups, panels and academic competitions. He has also served as principal investigator and co-investigator for many large oncology clinical trials.
Dr. Bonilla was recently appointed as member of the Executive Board of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). He will become President-Elect in October 2018. He is also a recipient of the American Medical Association (AMA) Foundation Leadership Award and was awarded a Fellowship in the American College of Physicians. Dr. Bonilla is an active member of the American Society for Bone and Marrow Transplantation, the American Society of Hematology and the American Association for Cancer Research.
