About Me

Dr. Zoe MacIsaac joined City of Hope Phoenix in 2019. As a plastic surgeon, Dr. MacIsaac works closely with each patient to examine, assess and address surgical needs.

Dr. MacIsaac’s work at City of Hope focuses on breast cancer reconstruction, as well as complex reconstruction of the head and neck, the extremities and other areas. She performs primary and secondary breast reconstruction after mastectomy, including reconstruction following nipple-sparing mastectomy and reconstruction after lumpectomy, including oncoplastic rearrangement and oncoplastic breast reduction. Dr. MacIsaac’s techniques are tailored to each individual patient and ranges from fat grafting to tissue expander and implant-based reconstruction. In addition, she performs completely autologous procedures using only the patient’s own tissue during breast reconstruction.

A native of Nova Scotia, both of Dr. MacIsaac’s parents were family practice doctors. At age nine, her family moved to the United States, and she continued learning about medicine from her parents. Dr. MacIsaac knew she wanted to help others, and also wanted to pursue her passion for design and working with her hands. Plastic surgery was a great career path, allowing Dr. MacIsaac to combine these interests.

“Plastic surgery involves many options, steps and outcomes,” says Dr. MacIsaac. “In order to establish clear expectations, I place a priority on encouraging clear and informative communication. I involve my patients along every step of the way, to best understand my patients. Trust and open communication promote the most successful outcomes.”

Dr. MacIsaac received a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. She earned a medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville. Dr. MacIsaac completed an integrated plastic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She also completed a fellowship in craniofacial biology research at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Dr. MacIsaac is a member of several professional organizations including the American Medical Association, American Society of Plastic Surgeons and American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. She has authored 26 peer reviewed papers, authored book chapters, published 16 abstracts and given over 126 presentations at professional local, regional, national and international meetings.

When not working, Dr. MacIsaac enjoys spending time with friends and growing family. She likes playing the piano, exploring the outdoors, exercising and running. Dr. MacIsaac has completed several marathons and has also climbed Mount Kilimanjaro.
Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
