About Me

“We’ve been looking at tissue samples under a microscope for hundreds of years, but in the last few decades, the field has changed completely. Pathology is now a key part of guiding cancer treatment. I’m excited to keep making a meaningful difference.”

A nationally recognized leader in pathology with more than 40 years of experience in his field, Stanley R. Hamilton, M.D., helped build the pathology and laboratory medicine department at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, into one of the leading programs nationally. Today, he brings that same passion and expertise to City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte as chair of its Department of Pathology.

Originally from Indiana, Dr. Hamilton earned his medical degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, then completed advanced training at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He spent 20 years helping grow the pathology program at Johns Hopkins before moving to his role at MD Anderson. He is widely respected for his subspecialty work in the field of pathology, which focuses on colon and gastrointestinal cancers.

Dr. Hamilton joined City of Hope because of the drive, compassion and expertise of its people. Here, he works to bring leading-edge digital pathology to every City of Hope location, improve the data used in clinical trials and ensure that all patients benefit from the latest advances in the field of pathology.

Patient reviews
The patient ratings and comments on this page are obtained from an external Press Ganey® outpatient survey provided to all eligible City of Hope patients within one to two weeks of their treatment occurrence. Raw data from the answers to the survey questions about our physicians are calculated by Press Ganey into a one- to five- star rating. In the spirit of transparency, all patient comments are posted as written by the patient, whether they are positive or negative. We only exclude comments if they are deemed to be slanderous or libelous, contain profanity or vulgar language, or do not relate to the patient's experience with the doctor involved. As a result, the comments are the views and opinions of the patients surveyed and are not endorsed by, and may not necessarily reflect the opinion of, City of Hope.
