“I love the dedication and commitment to patient care here,” says Soonja Sawyer, Physician Assistant at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA), Atlanta. At CTCA®, Sawyer provides care in the Hematology/Stem Cell Transplant Department. She works with patients diagnosed with lymphoma, myeloma and leukemia, planning treatments and managing side effects. She is helping to develop the stem cell transplant program at our Atlanta-area hospital. 

After earning her Bachelor’s degree in biology at the University of Texas in San Antonio, Sawyer attended the Physician Assistant Program at Baylor College of Medicine, completing her Masters of Science degree in 2002.

Sawyer has worked as a Certified Physician Assistant in several settings, mainly focused on hematologic cancers. She spent several years providing care for patients undergoing stem cell transplantation and other intensive cellular therapy at a large cancer center. She relocated to Chicago and worked at a Chicago-based health care facility in hematology. She worked in hematology and bone marrow transplantation in the Atlanta area before joining CTCA in June 2016.

Sawyer is a Certified Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She is a member of the Association of Physician Assistants in Oncology and the American Academy of Physician Assistants. She is a certified chemotherapy and biotherapy provider by the Oncology Nursing Society.

Outside of CTCA, Sawyer enjoys being with her husband and their son, and spending time with family and friends.

Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
