About Me

Sandy Liu, M.D., is a medical oncologist and the medical director of genitourinary medical oncology for City of Hope® Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center. Dedicated to making a difference in the lives of people with cancer through compassionate and conducting leading-edge cancer research, Dr. Liu believes in treating every patient with the same care and attention she would provide to a close family member.

Dr. Liu received her medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. During her final year of training there, she joined a medical outreach trip to rural China, where she provided cardiovascular screenings and distributed medications to underserved communities. She completed her internal medicine residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in New York City and at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she was chosen as chief fellow and later served as a clinical instructor and assistant clinical professor.

At City of Hope Orange County, Dr. Liu focuses on treating genitourinary cancers, including cancers of the kidney, prostate, bladder, testicles and urethra. Her research explores new drug therapies and the use of immunotherapy to strengthen the body’s natural ability to fight cancer.

Dr. Liu speaks Mandarin and enjoys staying active through hiking and biking. She also likes to explore new restaurants and travel whenever possible.

Patient reviews
The patient ratings and comments on this page are obtained from an external Press Ganey® outpatient survey provided to all eligible City of Hope patients within one to two weeks of their treatment occurrence. Raw data from the answers to the survey questions about our physicians are calculated by Press Ganey into a one- to five- star rating. In the spirit of transparency, all patient comments are posted as written by the patient, whether they are positive or negative. We only exclude comments if they are deemed to be slanderous or libelous, contain profanity or vulgar language, or do not relate to the patient's experience with the doctor involved. As a result, the comments are the views and opinions of the patients surveyed and are not endorsed by, and may not necessarily reflect the opinion of, City of Hope.

"Dr. Sandy Lui seemed very, very, very knowledgeable. I went there for advice and she told me everything I needed to know. The other staff was fine, but this doctor was exceptional. She knew about my surgery. She knew the doctor that did my surgery. Very kind empathetic, and answered all my questions. Again I wish I could tell you the whole experience was a 14 out of 10, which it was because of that doctor. All the other staff were nice and kind, but it was their job you could feel. I don't wanna get anybody in trouble, but don't lose this doctor. I wanna still come back and see her."
