Dr. Robert Bloom joined Cancer Treatment Centers of America ® (CTCA), Chicago with nearly 25 years experience in psychiatry. He began his career as Director of Medical Student Education for the Department of Psychiatry at Rush Medical College in Chicago, and went on to serve in a variety of clinical and academic positions associated with the practice of both psychiatry and sleep medicine.

As Medical Director of Oncologic Psychiatry at our Chicago hospital, Dr. Bloom diagnoses and treats mental, emotional and behavioral problems in cancer patients. He works together with other clinical team members to deliver personalized, fully integrated and comprehensive care.

Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Bloom earned a medical degree from Rush Medical College in 1983. He completed an internship and psychiatric residency at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, where he also served as chief resident.

Before pursuing his medical degree, Dr. Bloom graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Loyola University in Chicago.

Dr. Bloom is a Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of the Illinois Psychiatric Society and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

Dr. Bloom is married and has grown children, two of whom have advanced degrees in mental health. He has been a sailor and motorcyclist for many years. In January 2008, Dr. Bloom began to learn how to play the flute. In only a matter of a few short years, he has become skilled enough to play at an advanced level.
