Dr. Mahdi Taha has been dedicated to medicine since he served as an emergency room volunteer during college. As a Medical Oncologist at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA), Dr. Taha sees compassion as an integral part of providing optimal medical care.

“Patients should feel that their doctor understands what they are going through,” says Dr. Taha, who joined CTCA® Atlanta, in 2012.

Dr. Taha works on the Genitourinary and Thoracic teams, in addition to having expertise in melanoma and head and neck cancers. He also serves as Vice Chair of the Quality and Patient Safety Committee.

Dr. Taha earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology at Kean University in Union, New Jersey, in 2002. While completing his undergraduate degree, Dr. Taha volunteered in the emergency room of the nearby hospital. He later worked as an emergency medical technician, a position he held during the World Trade Center bombings in 2011. Dr. Taha completed his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, New York, in 2006. 

His post-graduate training included residencies in Internal Medicine at Union Hospital-Saint Barnabas Health Care System in Union, New Jersey; Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey; and Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences in Tulsa.

From 2009 to 2011, Dr. Taha was an internal medicine physician focused on primary care at a large medical center in New Jersey. He also spent two months in Haiti providing volunteer medical care in the wake of a catastrophic 7.0-magnitude earthquake in January 2010.

Dr. Taha first joined CTCA as an Internal Medicine Hospitalist in 2012. He was Medical Oncology Chief Fellow at Oklahoma State University, in affiliation with CTCA, from 2012 to 2014. He became Medical Director of Good Shepherd Hospice in 2013. In 2015, Dr. Taha completed an observership at MD Anderson with a focus on head and neck cancers.

Dr. Taha is licensed to practice medicine in Oklahoma, Georgia and New Jersey. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology by the American College of Osteopathic Internists. Dr. Taha has been awarded the title of Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists in 2016 and Fellow of the American College of Physicians in 2017, a recognition of excellence in teaching and contribution to education. Also in 2017, the American Physicians Network presented Dr. Taha with its Top Doctor award. Dr. Taha authored an abstract on prostate cancer, published at the 2018 Genitourinary Cancers Symposium and he is the primary investigator in several clinical trials at CTCA, including trials in head and neck cancer, prostate cancer and renal cell carcinoma.

Dr. Taha is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Oklahoma Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research, the American College of Osteopathic Internists, the American College of Physicians, the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer and the American Osteopathic Association.

Outside of CTCA, Dr. Taha pursues many interests, including traveling and cars. He is certified in scuba diving and shark diving. On Sundays, Dr. Taha helps feed the homeless in downtown Atlanta as a member of his local mosque.
