“I was happy to find a community where medicine is practiced in the same way that I live my life,” says Kia Twyman, Physician Assistant in Radiation Oncology at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) in Philadelphia. “That is, addressing the whole person in an integrated way.”

Clarkson completed the Physician Assistant Program at Hahnemann University, earning her Bachelor of Science degree in 2001.

From 2002 to 2008, she was a Physician Assistant in Interventional Cardiology at large hospitals in New York City. She conducted physical examinations, treated pre- and post-operative complications, ordered and evaluated lab tests, educated patients on preventive care and risk reduction and served as a liaison between patients, physicians, fellows and nurses.

Twyman then joined a private dermatology practice in Philadelphia, where she worked until 2010. She diagnosed and managed acute and chronic skin conditions, conducted biopsies, and addressed a multitude of skin disorders. She joined CTCA® in March 2011.

Licensed by the State of Pennsylvania, Twyman is a Board-Certified Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

At CTCA, Clarkson provides support to the radiation oncology team to ensure the optimal management and treatment of patients. She strives to make patients as comfortable as possible before, during and after their radiation treatment. She also focuses on supportive care and nutritional support.

Twyman is also mindful of the emotional challenges patients may face during cancer treatment. “I approach every patient with an open mind and a gentle heart,” she says.

Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
